Land in the bustling capital city of Kathmandu where you’ll meet you team and guides that’ll be joining you for the next 18 days. Before the river expedition begins it’s time to explore Nepal’s capital city and learn about the culture, history and the religion through our expert guide. We’ll explore the side streets, mighty temples and ancient cities before setting you free into Kathmandu’s nightlife!
Up early the next day, it’s time to begin our search for gold along the mighty, Sun Koshi River!
The search for gold allows no passengers, everyone has a part to play from helping to load the gear rafts and inflating the rafts to handing out kit and packing the snacks. White water rafting the Sun Koshi involves a lot of gear as well as our own, to keep them dry all the gear goes on the pack-rafts who will float down behind us. Once packed up, the river expedition begins!
The Sun Koshi is a wild river which is perfect for both beginner and expert. The rapids will range from 3 to 5 and while eight days promises a lot of paddling, it’s a lot of fun. It’s a real river expedition which will take you far away from main roads and noise, into the quiet jungles, mountainous canyons and rural parts of Nepal. There’s no warm up to the Sun Koshi, it’s an adventure right from the word go!
Your days length will range from full to half day paddling depending on campsites and energy levels of the group on that day. There are plenty of changes to not just paddle the raft, but to steer it or even hop in one of the kayaks on flat water. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife, the rivers will take us deep into the heat of Nepal and there’s a chance to see some amazing bird life, monkeys and even Leopards!
Our evenings off the white water will be spent around the campfire, eating freshly cooked food, sharing stories and star gazing. With no light around to pollute the sky, the skies here offer the some of the best stargazing!
After eight days on the best white water in Nepal it’s time for some well needed comforts. Flying back into Kathmandu this short flight will cut out a days travel and will get you to a well needed shower and bed much quicker. Arriving in the evening we’ll enjoy a hearty meal and celebratory beer as we look back on the river expedition we just finished. You’ll have a full day in Kathmandu to relax, do laundry and explore before we head back to the airport for a quick, but scenic flight down to Pokhara.
Take a window seat and have your eyes and camera ready as we fly into Pokhara past the most mighty mountain range in the world, the Himalaya. Once we land in Pokhara the day is yours to explore! If you’re still tired from the river expedition Pokhara has some of the best spas in Nepal and offers a chilled out vibe which is best experienced beside Fewa Lake.
From the bustling streets of Pokhara it’s time to experience Nepali culture for a few days. In 4x4’s we’ll travel into the heart of the Syangja district to a beautiful home-stay village called, Sirubari. Nestled high in the mountains the people here will welcome you into their village, open their doors and share their homes, food and stories with you! While in Sirubari rest up and learn how River and Soul Adventures working in collaboration with Rotary international have helped to improve the lives of the locals and give back to the community. Enjoy immersing yourself in the Nepali culture and choose to relax and explore the village or join us on a day hike up to the yogis living high in the mountains in search of enlightenment. You’ll not only meet the people up here, but you’ll have sensational views into the valley and the Himalayan foothills. Definitely a hike that you’ll want to carry a camera on! Whether you’ve been relaxing or exploring the evening is spent dancing, singing and learning about the religion, traditions and Nepali culture. You’ll be the guest of honor at this event and dancing, is pretty much mandatory!
Wrapping up our time in our Nepal home-stay it’s time to head back to the city of Pokhara. But we will leave in style, on foot! Walk up and over the saddle of a small mountain above the neighboring village of Panchamul and drop 1000 meters down into the Andhi Khola Valley below. Stopping at secret tea houses along the way to fill up on biscuits and tea, there’s also the option to jump in the jeep instead of walking. But at the bottom, the jeeps will meet us and we’ll enjoy a comfortable, short drive back to Pokhara where you will have more time to explore, relax and shop!
Surrounded by the mighty Himalayas this is the best place to sacrifice a long lie for a sunrise! So a 4am wake up call, a drive and a small hike later, we will have one of the best viewpoints in the city to watch the sun come up and hit the Himalayan peaks. Back in time for breakfast, the rest of the day is yours to explore or join the guides and take a short half day trip around Pokhara.
Our final adventure is a plane ride back to the capital city Kathmandu, grab a window seat for your last views of the Himalayas before the city comes into view. Once landed the day is yours to grab last minute souvenirs and explore before we have our final dinner together, celebrate the trip and share memories, stories and laughs. This is where your time in Nepal with us ends, but the memories will stick with you for a lifetime!

Travel to Sun Koshi and start Rafting!
Leave Kathmandu early in the morning to the start of the river (approx. 3 hours). When we arrive watch the guides spring into action unloading all the gear and pumping up the rafts – they would appreciate a hand though too! After lunch there will be a safety briefing before we jump on the river and start the expedition. The river starts off easy here will some class 2 rapids. We might even be able to stop off at a local Hindu temple to bless the trip, if you are lucky. We will be camping on a river beach, spend the evening relaxing under the stars.
Rafting the Sun Koshi
Once we’ve had breakfast and packed up camp, we continue our way downstream. The river starts to increase in volume as the Tamba Kosi joins. Today gets more exciting as we pass through more notable rapids such as “No Exit” and “Meatgrinder”. There are some flat sections too – these are great for trying some cliff jumping! In the evening we set up camp and then have some free time. There are plenty of things to do from simply relaxing, exploring the area, or even learn to kayak and give rolling a try!
Rafting the Sun Koshi
Wake to a boiled Kettle and food ready to be eaten. The river keeps on getting bigger and bigger as more tributaries keep joining the Sun Koshi. The main event today is just after the Liku Khola joins and created the Anxiety series of rapids: Pre, Post, and High Anxiety! Again there will be plenty of time to enjoy the flatter sections of warm water. Here you can have a go a kayaking and learn some key skills about reading the water and safely making your way across the river. Once camp is set up we can enjoy a game of football with the locals who will probably stay for a sing song around the camp fire and watch the sun go down.
Rafting the Sun Koshi
This is it, the day you’ve all been waiting for – Hakapur! The biggest commercially rafted rapid in Nepal! We will stop before the rapid to look at it to decide how to approach. Depending on river levels the rafts might have to walk round the first section as it may be un-runnable. But if it is – get ready for the craziest roller coaster of your life, and you will defiantly get wet! Gather your thoughts quickly as you are swiftly swept into Hakapur 2, sometimes even better than the first! Tonight we will camp by a very special river – the Dudh Kosi. This is the river that runs off Everest.
Day 7 – 10
Rafting the Sun Koshi
In the coming few days you can expect "Jaws" I, II & III' , "Rhino Rock" and “Jungle Corridor” which is basically 10km of non-stop rapid with big bouncy waves finished off with "Rollacoaster" which if you are in the mood is a safe place for us to flip the raft! A highlight of these days is the big impressive waterfall we will stop at for a well deserved shower.
The "Big Dipper" and "Black Hole" are the last big rapids on the river and a fitting finale to the Sun Kosi. You will notice the difference in scenery as the jungle dissapears along with the mountains making way for the flat Indian Plains. For those that dare, you may also have to opportunity to jump off a 30ft bridge into the river below and depending on the water levels.
Just after the confluence of the Arun and Tamur rivers we will stop at a Holy Hindu temple to view the sights. After this it is a quick 20 minute flat paddle to the take out, Chatra, where we will unload the gear one final time and jump in the bus for a quick journey to the airport. You'll take a plane back to Kathmandu to save us a 13 hour bus drive, so much better! Once back in Kathmandu there is plenty of time for you to get some R&R. Have a long awaited shower and some restaurant food to get ready for the next stage in the journey.
